This project was powerful in a way I’m not sure I can describe here. After seeing some portraits I took of my mother during her cancer treatment, the American Cancer Society reached out to me, asking to replicate the touching, intimate portraits for a breast cancer awareness month campaign.
I was honored.
I brought along two of my favorite production professionals as we traveled to Philadelphia for the shoot, and I also helped produce several other aspects of the shoot like booking the studio and makeup artist. These are always details I like to be hands-on with when appropriate.
I cried over and over with my subjects. We were raw and vulnerable together. We were also powerful and joyful together. I hope the images tell that story. Get your mammogram.
